Working America

Welcome to the Southeastern Area Labor Federation of Pennsylvania, AFL-CIO website. We are southeastern Pennsylvania’s union movement, comprised of over 115 local unions with over 44,000 union members. Our presence here is to provide information on current interests and activities within our collective organization. We hope that you find our site useful and very informative. Visit our blog* page, “Today’s Union Talk” for the latest information and activities happening ALF-wide.

The First Step to Turn Around America is the

Employee Free Choice Act

The Employee Free Choice Act (H.R. 800, S. 1041), supported by a bipartisan coalition in Congress, would enable working people to bargain for better wages, benefits and working conditions by restoring workers’ freedom to choose for themselves whether to join a union. It would:

  • Establish stronger penalties for violation of employee rights when workers seek to form a union and during first-contract negotiations

  • Provide mediation and arbitration for first contract disputes

  • Allow employees to form unions by signing cards authorizing union representation

PENNSYLVANIA EMPLOYEE FREE CHOICE LEGISLATION

House Resolution 262 was introduced on April 27th by Representative Dave Levdansky. This State House Resolution that now has 90 co-sponsors urges Congress to enact the Employee Free Choice Act. More State Representatives are expected to sign on as co-sponsors and to support this resolution. Use our Links page to find your State Representative and urge their support of this important Resolution.

WASHINGTON, DC- Following a Health, Education, Labor and Pensions hearing today on Rebuilding Economic Security: Empowering Workers to Restore the Middle Class, U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) released the following statement:

THE Southeastern Area Labor Federation of Pennsylvania, AFL-CIO (SE PA ALF, AFL-CIO) is an expression of the hopes and aspirations of the working people in the following counties:

Berks-Bucks-Chester-Delaware-Montgomery

Our ability to create good jobs, ensure working families have affordable health care and retirement security, defeat unfair trade agreements and improve and protect progressive public policies depends on effective, people-powered mobilization at the local, state and national levels year round.  We cannot win advances for working people or restore the freedom of every worker to choose a union and bargain collectively until we transform the laws and political environment in our country.

The
Southeastern Area Labor Federation of Pennsylvania is building a movement inspired by action, forethought and solidarity to improve workers' lives throughout the Southeastern Pennsylvania region.
